How to Mount Your LCD TV

So, you've bought a brand new, flat screen Plasma or LCD television. Congrats. You've got that lucky wall decided upon to mount it in the spare bedroom that is soon to become your oasis. There's just one remaining question - How to wall mount your flat screen TV?

The very first thing you must consider is whether you are going to hire a professional or do it on your own. If you are undecided of any of the following information, play it safe and hire somebody to take care of the job. If, however you would like to dirty your hands a little and probably make some mistakes or miscalculations to give yourself a sense of achievement, you should certainly read on.

Once you've set aside an hour or so to get this job done and chosen the wall, you need to figure out whether that wall is an exterior or interior wall. While it is not always the case, walls on the interior will usually give you less difficulty than exterior walls.

Obviously, we are assuming that you've previously determined that your flat screen LCD or Plasma TV can be mounted on the wall, right? In the event you haven't done this, don't worry too much. While a lot flat screens that are now on the market are in fact wall mountable, several early models aren't. Be sure you check the box. Do you see the words “VESA Compatible” or some modification of that? If it is there, you are in luck, and now you can continue. And, since you have done your homework and picked out the correct wall bracket for the display, we can go straight to the enjoyable part - the tools. If you have the basics in your tool box, including a tape measure, screw driver, and a drill, you're doing okay. It'll also help if you have a stud finder to be sure you don't end up mounting your new TV in only drywall.

Once you have a rough idea about where you want the television, look for studs and make some final adjustments to your placement. You shouldn't forget to be certain that you are close by an outlet or You'll have a worthless screen on your wall. Once you have found studs, you can go ahead and attach the brackets to the back of the TV screen. You should do this before attaching the TV bracket on the wall so you know if any changes need to be made to the final placement of the mount.

Once final adjustments are made, make a mark where the anchor bolts are going to be put in and pre-drill the holes, because they are often difficult to start. You should also cut out a space for cabling once you place the anchors and then you can run the cables. Be certain that the mount is leveled and sink the anchors. After the brackets and mount are attached, ask a buddy for some help lifting the unit on to the wall. You are not going to want to attempt to do this alone as the televisions can be pretty cumbersome and heavy when being lifted alone.

Now the best part - kick back with an ice cold drink and watch the big game on your new wall mounted Plasma flat screen TV.
