If you find a mess that has happended without your knowledge, put the dachsund puppy in another place and make the spot clear. Please do not shout at your dog in any other way. If he goes in the house, you fell down on the job.
Since you own him, it is completely your duty to look after that he is not doing anything wrong. So as to be satisfied your new Dachsund must feel protected about his place in the group.
If you havent discovered any accidents within a duration of two weeks then the chances are that your dachsund dog has learnt where to go for potty and you may allow him go out of the crate during spare time. Again, if you found an accident, you have misunderstood that your dog is suitably taught.
The process for older dachsund dogs is very much similar. Keep in mind - even dogs who are supposedly perfectly housetrained may have a number of "accidents" as they get familiar to their new surroundings.
Regularly, dachsunds of both sexes will "mark" their land so that any probable opponents are alerted that this is now their "territory".
Even an older dog must be allowed to leave the crate within a duration of three hours. It is more general after a dog wakes up. Most dogs (like people!) will urinate within several seconds of awakening. Many will have a bowel movement within minutes of waking up.
Bring your dog outside the crate for at least 4-5 times a day during waking up, lunch and at dinner when he can micturate or can have bowel movement.
If so, your dog can interact with the family and see TV or lounge with you until bedtime. In the end, pull him out for potty and back again to sleep. Otherwise, apply the same techniques that you have been taught for proper housebreaking your dog.
Nursing your dog is a hard work, but with stability and fondness I have observed cent percent results. Even you can see the consequences after period of 3 weeks. If your dog is successful in completing the work, admire him and reward him for his great task.
